Gas Installations

The short version

What’s the job?
Gas lockers, hobs, ovens, water heaters, heaters, BBQ points and gas systems generally. Privately owned vehicles only, not hire vans.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Every van is different, so the best thing is to get in touch and talk it through.
How do I get in touch?
WhatsApp is the best way to get hold of me. Or ring 07584 865427.

I fit campervan gas systems and the appliances that run on them, at my workshop in Llanfairfechan.

What gas qualification do you hold?

I hold STGW 100, Gas Safety Touring Caravans and Motorhomes. The certificate is issued by LPG Training, who are contracted by the NCC, and it is valid until 11 September 2030. STGW is the standard set by the Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers.

It covers LPG work in privately owned touring caravans and motorhomes, and it is the right qualification for that work. Gas Safe registration is not required for it.

The certificate lists what I was assessed on, which is exactly what I am qualified to work on:

  • Gas safety legislation and standards
  • LPG safety
  • Properties of LPG
  • Safe storage
  • Pressure and flow
  • Rigid and flexible pipework
  • Combustion and its control
  • Appliances for space heating, water heating and cooking
My STGW 100 Certificate of Competence from LPG Training, Gas Safety Touring Caravans and Motorhomes, awarded to Benjamin Booth. Certificate number E/7695, valid from 13 September 2025, expiry date 11 September 2030.

My certificate. Valid until 11 September 2030.

I am spelling that out because gas is the one area where you should ask. If anyone working on your van’s gas cannot tell you exactly what they hold and what it covers, do not let them near it.

Can you do the gas on a hire van?

If the vehicle is going to be rented out, I cannot do the gas. My qualification covers privately owned vehicles used personally. A vehicle that goes out on hire is a different category of work and it is outside what I hold.

Personal use is absolutely fine, and that is the vast majority of vans that come to me.

If you are running a hire vehicle and want work done here, bring it in and I will do everything except the gas. Electrics, heating, windows and conversion work are all unaffected. It is only the gas I have to leave alone, and I would far rather tell you that now than after you have driven over from Manchester.

What gas work do you do?

Do you do gas safety checks?

I do not currently do standalone gas safety checks, meaning testing an existing system on its own without other work attached. It is something I may offer in future.

Do I have to bring the van to you?

Same as everything else. The van comes to my workshop in Llanfairfechan. If you are stuck somewhere, ring me and I will see what I can do.
